Who we are
ElTocuyo.com is an independent informational portal fully dedicated to El Tocuyo, known as the Mother City of Venezuela, capital of the Morán Municipality in Lara state. Behind the site there is a small editorial team —the ElTocuyo.com Editorial— that works with documentary sources to bring together in one place the history, culture, tourism, gastronomy and notable figures of the region.
It was born from the conviction that El Tocuyo, one of the oldest and most significant cities in Venezuela (founded on December 7, 1545), deserves a digital space worthy of its historical importance. That is why we rigorously document the colonial legacy, the Tamunangue, the Tocuyo bread and the contributions of a region that gave rise to the settlement of central-western Venezuela.
Our mission
Preserve the memory
Rigorously document and share the history of El Tocuyo and the Morán Municipality in a verifiable and accessible way.

Support local voices
Highlight the artists, craftspeople and workers who keep the traditions of El Tocuyo and its parishes alive.
Editorial team
ElTocuyo.com is edited by the Redacción ElTocuyo.com, an independent team based in Venezuela. The team works with verified primary and secondary sources: colonial archives, academic bibliography (Lisandro Alvarado, Hermano Nectario María, Mario Briceño Iragorry), records from the Venezuelan Institute of Cultural Heritage (IPC), Fundación Polar (Dictionary of Venezuelan History), Funvisis for seismic data, the National Academy of History of Venezuela, BiblioFEP, regional press and testimonies from Tocuyo locals. When a fact is not verifiable, we explicitly state so.

Editorial methodology
Every article on ElTocuyo.com goes through a writing and review process based on verifiable sources. These are our working principles:
1. Research with verifiable sources
We work with Venezuelan academic bibliography, institutional archives (National Academy of History, IPC, Fundación Polar), Funvisis for seismic data, colonial primary sources and regional press. Wikipedia is used as a starting point, never as a single source.
2. Cross-checking and verification
Dates, names and events are cross-referenced against at least two independent sources. When a claim cannot be verified, we label it as "unverified" rather than presenting it as fact.
3. Corrections policy
If you spot a factual error, incorrect attribution or have additional verifiable information, please write to us. Corrections are published within 72 hours and reflected in the article's "last updated" date.
4. AI usage policy
We use AI tools as writing and verification assistants, never as autonomous authors. All content is reviewed and edited by people before publication. AI-generated images are always labeled under the photo as "AI-generated illustrative image".
You can read our full editorial process, the complete list of sources and our AI policy in Editorial policy.
